Pole barn cost calculator

Plug in a footprint and building use to see a published price band. The math is simple: square feet times a low and high per-foot rate, plus an allowance for each overhead door.

How to read the result

  • Shell means posts, trusses, steel roof and siding, and basic doors, sitting on gravel or dirt.
  • Shop adds a concrete slab, which HomeGuide prices at $5–10 per square foot.
  • Horse barn covers stalls, partitions, and a tack area.
  • Barndominium is a finished living space with utilities, and it's priced closer to a house.

None of these include a well, septic, a long power run from the road, or major grading. In much of rural Idaho those can add five figures.

Rough installed range:

Per-square-foot ranges come from HomeGuide's 2026 pole barn price guide (shell $15–40/sf, horse barn $35–70/sf, slab $5–10/sf, barndominium $150k–315k for 2,000 sf) and Angi (2026). The $1,500–$4,000 allowance per overhead door is our own assumption, not a published figure. Idaho snow-load engineering, site work, and lumber/steel prices can move a real bid well outside this range.
